SCHOOL'S OUT
No morning bells ring.
No locker doors slam.
No stampede of feet
On linoleum floors.
No crowded hallways.
No scraping chair legs.
No hushed conversations
While Teach calls the roll.
No history quiz worries.
No algebra proofs.
No science exploration
That ends in thick smoke.
Yes, the halls echo silence.
Yes, the gym apes a cave.
Yes, no point skipping school—
When school’s skipping us.
