DECEMBER 2025 -- The Colors of Christmas

THE COLORS OF CHRISTMAS

If I asked you the colors of Christmas

I’m betting you’d choose red and green

Red for ribbons and bows, stockings hung with care

Not to mention that jolly elf Santa

Green for lighted trees, balsam wreaths on our doors

And all that hard cash we will spend

That’s all well and good, but what if I told you

Other colors have their roles in this season

Those stocking lumps—please let them be orange

Though black coal comes in handy for snowmen

Now’s the time to head outside and make some

A yellow sun breaks through gray wintry clouds

Giving drifted white snow tons of sparkles

See pink-cheeked children as they frolic and play

Soon they’ll be ready for the brown of hot cocoa

And Grandma’s gingerbread warm from the oven

The fireplace’s flames give ornaments a gold glow

While atop the tree a silver star twinkles

And everyone gathers to hear once again

The tale of that first Christmas time

When a tiny babe, perhaps swaddled in blue

Was celebrated by Bethlehem shepherds

And three purple robed kings from afar.

NOVEMBER 2025 -- Faraway Places

FARAWAY PLACES

Faraway places often populate my dreams

Lush rainforests teeming with arboreal life

Remote Pacific Isles with sands of inky black

String of crystal lakes hidden in the northern woods

Harsh glacial expanses where penguin waddles dwell

Wildlife viewing camp near a busy water hole

Towering temples lost amidst the desert dunes

Dusty lunar craters few others have explored

Geodesic domes housing a Martian colony

Yes, faraway places may populate my dreams

Yet all this traveler needs is a nice comfy chair

A hot cup of tea, and a waiting stack of books
