SEPTEMBER 2020 -- Hope Rises Out of Devastation

These poems are dedicated to all my family and friends affected by the wildfires burning throughout California, Oregon and Washington. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Today the sky turned red

Red as our tractor

Red as our old barn

Sprinklers raining wet hope

Wet as falling tears

Wet as sweaty brows

As we pick, pack, get ready

Truck standing ready

Crated pets ready

Knowing our best option

Might mean losing to survive

*************

Hungry flames feasting

Nothing left but smoke and ash

Sad burnt offerings

Then hope burns brighter

Looking past devastation

Rebuild is our cry
