MEMORIAL DAY 2021 -- HONOR THOSE WHO SERVED

HONOR THOSE WHO SERVED

Come, wave your flags

And sing your songs

To honor those who served.

Some gave their lives,

Some gave their limbs,

Some made it safely home.

Think not of right, nor of wrong.

Their orders were to fight—

A perilous job they carried out

With honor and with mettle.

So, on this day of memorial

Let’s strive to put aside

Our differences for pride,

Remembering the lives they saved,

The freedoms they preserved,

Might well have been our own.

MAY 2021 -- Taking Inspiration From Loss

               NOWHERE

Street sounds rumble like distant thunder

Voices echo from adjacent yards

A sprinkler spins

A lawn mower growls

But nowhere can I hear

The joy of your laughter.

Cold rain tumbles against window panes

White noise chatters from the radio

A fire crackles

A sleeping dog stirs

But nowhere can I hear

The peace of your breathing.

Soft light filters through parted curtains

Hopeful trills greet the sun’s slow dawning

A faucet drips

An alarm clock hums

But nowhere can I hear

If my heart’s still beating.
