MARCH 2019 -- A FICKLE SHADOW

A FICKLE SHADOW

That pesky rodent got it wrong
He predicted an early spring
But all I see are fields of white
That aren’t in a rush to leave.
Roads and walkways still need clearing
While schools need more snow days
And anyone who ventures out
Will want their long-johns on.
So dream, my friends, of warmer days
Until this cold spell snaps
And never again pin sunny hopes
On a rodent’s fickle shadow.

FEBRUARY 2019 -- Won't You Be My Valentine?

Won’t you be my Valentine?
I promise to be kind.
When I peel an orange and eat the flesh,
I’ll save you the seeds and rind.
Please, please, be my Valentine.
I promise to be caring.
I’ll remember not to slurp my soup
And that toothbrushes aren’t for sharing.
Yes, if you’ll be my Valentine,
I promise that I’ll love you.
I’ll even wear that tie you bought,
But, Hon, your fanny gets the tattoo.
