The mountains are my air
Filling me with the scent
Of unexplored horizons
Which may look daunting
But in reality, only hide
All the trails I have yet to walk.
*******
I walk the mountains
Breathing solace, tasting peace
Restoring my soul.

THOSE SUMMER PICNICS
Watermelon,
Plump strawberries,
Tender sweet corn . . .
What folks bring varies.
Beans and cole slaw,
Dill pickle spears,
Sliced tomatoes . . .
Condiments go here.
Crisp green lettuce,
Burger with cheese,
Roasted hot dogs . . .
Pass the mustard, please.
Mom’s apple pie,
Sodas on ice,
Eat ‘til you’re full . . .
Then a nap sounds nice.

OUT BEYOND ANTARES
If we leave this world,
Seek out another one,
What options will we find
Out beyond Antares?
Will there be blue skies,
Lush hills and fruited plains
Awaiting mankind’s step
Out beyond Antares?
Or vistas quite strange,
Colors twisting our ken
Forging a new normal
Out beyond Antares?
Pushing us to bend
To adjust and adapt
Embracing our new home
Out beyond Antares.
A world of new hope,
A fresh course we can chart,
New harmonies we’ll sing
Out beyond Antares.
