FEBRUARY 2022 --My Love's a Radial Tire

1

My love’s a radial tire . . .

Except there’s signs of wearing

Showing on his rims.

  2

My love’s a questing rowboat . . .

Except his guiding compass

Always finds true north.

    3

My love’s a handy dollar . . .

Except he’d say inflation

Has increased his worth.

     4

My love’s a busy oyster . . .

Except aggravating him

Doesn’t produce pearls.

       5

My love’s a constant oak tree . . .

Except his stalwart branches

Will find ways to bend.

       6

My love’s a tarnished mirror . . .

Except you’ll find he’s much more

Than an image shows.

    7

My love’s a scruffy old boot . . .

Except there’s no desire to

Kick off and replace.

      8

My love’s a noisy blender . . .

Except mixing two to one

Makes our love so blessed.

JANUARY 2022 -- Sojourners

This month's poem was inspired by those who throughout the years dreamed of what our world might one day be.

 SOJOURNERS

We exist as sojourners

Temporary inhabitants

Of a blue-green orb

Spinning in and out

Of the tendrils of choice

For choice is the key

And time the limit

Leaving those who follow

To look back and determine

Whether our lefts or rights

Proved to be decisions

That improved this world

Even in small ways.

                  *******

 A HAIKU FOR THE TIMES

Humanity thrives

When the needs of the many

Top the needs of me

DECEMBER 2021 -- Trouble at Sant's Workshop

The elves have gone on strike, my dear,

Said they’re tired of snow and ice.

Not to mention all the overtime

They can’t avoid this time of year.

Their contract could stand updating,

They’d like a better dental plan,

But most of all, what they really want

Is Santa’s workshop relocating.

Some place less white, some place with green.

They wouldn’t mind a sandy beach.

They claim all their toy-making skills

Will benefit from this change of scene.

But old Santa’s playing hardball,

Argues his overhead’s too high.

But he’s willing to revisit this

If things look better by next fall.

The elves said “No, we must refuse.”

Their picket line is standing firm.

And so, my dear, for Christmas this year,

Santa will be delivering IOUs.
