The reason I feel slow and sluggish,
As if earth’s gravity has increased
Or I’m walking through thick muck.
The reason my body craves moisture,
Both inside and out,
As if I’m a sponge wrung out
Or bread browning in the toaster.
The reason I prostrate myself
At the altar of the air conditioner,
As if worshipping cooler air
Will insure my salvation.
Temperature and temper
Are intrinsically tied
No wonder they call it
Getting hot under the collar
Sunlight fading
Breezes building
We open windows
Knowing sleep Will come
Easier tonight
