CROCUS PROMISE
March brings days of in-between-ness
Still trying to shrug off winter
Not quite ready to slip on spring
Days when most plants still lie dormant
Hidden away from cold’s sharp nip
Yet here and there bold little blooms
Poke up their heads, reach for the sun
Ignoring frost and cold-snap storms
Set on making them rue that choice
Their boast is brash, but holds so true
These blossoms won’t accept defeat
They stand in defiant promise
More spring flowers are on their way.
