MEMORIAL DAY 2021 -- HONOR THOSE WHO SERVED

HONOR THOSE WHO SERVED

Come, wave your flags

And sing your songs

To honor those who served.

Some gave their lives,

Some gave their limbs,

Some made it safely home.

Think not of right, nor of wrong.

Their orders were to fight—

A perilous job they carried out

With honor and with mettle.

So, on this day of memorial

Let’s strive to put aside

Our differences for pride,

Remembering the lives they saved,

The freedoms they preserved,

Might well have been our own.

MAY 2021 -- Taking Inspiration From Loss

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Early_Morning_Walk_%2838917747002%29.jpg

               NOWHERE

Street sounds rumble like distant thunder

Voices echo from adjacent yards

A sprinkler spins

A lawn mower growls

But nowhere can I hear

The joy of your laughter.

Cold rain tumbles against window panes

White noise chatters from the radio

A fire crackles

A sleeping dog stirs

But nowhere can I hear

The peace of your breathing.

Soft light filters through parted curtains

Hopeful trills greet the sun’s slow dawning

A faucet drips

An alarm clock hums

But nowhere can I hear

If my heart’s still beating.

APRIL 2021 -- PASSING THOUGHTS

PASSING THOUGHTS

My mind is on mortality

Watching someone I love fade away

Drifting too soon into memory

Why remains a mystery

Where is based on faith and trust

Tempering the grief

But unable to fill the gap

This passing will leave behind

JANUARY 2021 - To Free A Muse: A Haiku Series

I didn't think I would be posting this month--my muse was still on hiatus. Then today's post for Tara Lazar's Storystorm 2021 gave me the KITA I needed. You can read that post here: Amanda Davis Storystorm Post

Where are the needed

Words that sing what’s in my soul?

Gone fishing, I think.

I sit and ponder

But the well has stagnated,

Ideas now mud.

Can gloom be cast off?

Despondency scraped away?

A muse unshackled?

Divine a fresh well.

Massage your muse with new prompts.

Indulge inquiry.

Capture those rambles,

Leave no feral thought untapped.

Feel the words flowing.
